Welcome to a truly unique opportunity to live in a beautiful, 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom house with a private garden and a historic link to one of the most famous painters ever lived, named Rembrandt van Rijn.
The property is directly available for rent and will be offered in a fully furnished condition.
The monthly rental price is excluding utilities which are approx. € 300,- per month.
Background and history:
The original building (named ‘De Blauwe Arent’), was built around 1612 and once owned by the ‘Six’ family. A Dutch aristocratic family that became wealthy through the silk and cloth industry. Their son, named Jan Six, has lived in the building up to around the year 1654 until he left to live on Herengracht 619 when it was completed.
Jan Six and Rembrandt became friends and Rembrandt has made a world famous etch of Jan Six in 1647 in front of the window of this very building. The etch is part of the Collection Six and is still owned by the family. It has been in several expositions and we have attached a picture of the etch to this advertisement.
Layout of the house:
Wide staircase up to the upper ground floor on the outside of the building. Through the beautiful, half-moon shaped front door you reach the communal entrance hallway with ornamented ceilings and a marble floor.
Private entrance on the right side of the hallway.
Hallway with wardrobe space and built-in wardrobe / storage on the side.
The grand living space of approx. 70sqm and 3.6m ceiling height has a beautiful view over the canal and surrounding area. All the original ornaments of the ceiling have been preserved and it truly has a special feeling of being in this historic room where Rembrandt van Rijn has etched his friend, Jan Six.
Towards the back of this level, there is a spacious living kitchen which has been upgraded to modern standards. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, 5-burner gas stove, oven/microwave combination and plenty of storage space.
There are two very large (double glazed) windows that let through a lot of natural daylight and give a nice view over the garden.
Through the inner staircase, you can reach the lower ground floor with all the bed- and bathrooms. There is a separate toilet with fountain situated next to the staircase.
The primary bedroom is furnished with a comfortable double bed and built-in wardrobe. The second bedroom is furnished with a single bed with an antique wooden frame.
There is also an extra built-in wardrobe situated in the hallway.
The bathroom is equipped with a bath tub, separate walk-in shower, washbasin and storage.
The washing machine and dryer are situated behind the bathroom in a separate area.
Towards the back, behind the bathroom and laundry area, the 3rd (bed)room / office area is situated. It’s a very bright room with direct access to the private garden of the house.
Studio / guest apartment:
Through the hallway on the lower ground level, you can reach the separated studio apartment at the front side of the building.
The studio apartment is 60sqm and has a separate bedroom and private bathroom.
It is fully furnished and has a fully functional kitchen with refrigerator/freezer, gas stove and oven.
It can ideally be used for an au-pair or guests that could have their complete privacy and separate entrance on the front side on the street.
The entire apartment has been renovated (2023) and updated to all modern standards, including double glazing. Every square meter has been looked at and improved so that the new resident can enjoy this special place in all comfort!
Furthermore, at the back of the building, which can be reached through the communal hallway on the upper ground floor, there is a communal garden in between the buildings of Kloveniersburgwal and Groenburgwal.
Lastly, there is a secure bicycle storage underneath the building that can be accessed directly from the street.
Location:
The house is very well situated within the historical city center of Amsterdam.
This part of Kloveniersburgwal has mostly residential buildings and is surprisingly quiet.
In the direct vicinity you can find Hotel De L’Europe, Hotel The Grand, TOBACCO theater and also plenty of public transportation options through Rokin, Rembrandtplein or Nieuwmarkt. Many shops, restaurants and supermarkets are all within walkin distance of the house.
You can reach the rest of city and other neighborhoods like Oud-Zuid or De Pijp within 10 minutes by bicycle.
