KERKSTRAAT:
Aan de Kerkstraat stonden de koetshuizen en paardenstallen van de grachtenpanden. Het grachtenhuis en het koetshuis hoorden vaak kadastraal bij elkaar. Aan de Kerkstraat staan vandaag de dag nog 45 voormalige koetshuizen.
Sommige koetshuizen werden rijkelijk versierd, zoals het koetshuis van Keizersgracht 524 aan de Kerkstraat 61. Dit koetshuis heeft aan de tuinzijde een siergevel met beelden van Ceres en Herakles. Een schilderij van deze gevel door Hendrik Keun behoort tot de collectie van het Rijksmuseum.
Bij de kruising met de Vijzelstraat verrees in de jaren 1926-'28 de 'Vijzelflat' of wel 'Amstelstein' naar ontwerp van de Amsterdamse School-architect J.M van der Mey. Deze flat was over de Kerkstraat heen gebouwd, waar een soort poort ontstond. In 1955 stortte een deel van dit gebouw in, waarna het in 1962 werd gesloopt om plaats te maken voor een pand van de Algemene Bank Nederland. Dit door Marius Duintjer ontworpen en in 1969-'73 gebouwde bankgebouw, ook weer met een poort over de Kerkstraat, werd later de Vijzelbank genoemd. (bron: Wikipedia)

CHURCH STREET:
The coach houses and stables of the canal houses were located on Kerkstraat. The canal house and the coach house often belonged together at the land register. On the Kerkstraat there are still 45 former coach houses today.
Some carriage houses were richly decorated, such as the carriage house of Keizersgracht 524 on Kerkstraat 61. This coach house has an ornamental gable on the garden side with statues of Ceres and Heracles. A painting of this facade by Hendrik Keun belongs to the Rijksmuseum collection.
At the intersection with the Vijzelstraat in the years 1926-28 the "Vijzelflat" or "Amstelstein" was built to a design by the Amsterdam School architect J.M. van der Mey. This flat was built over Kerkstraat, where a kind of gateway was created. In 1955 part of this building collapsed, after which it was demolished in 1962 to make way for a building of the Algemene Bank Nederland. This bank building, designed by Marius Duintjer and built in 1969-'73, also with a gate across Kerkstraat, was later called the Vijzelbank. (source: Wikipedia)
