HISTORY
The street name Vurehout refers to spruce wood (vurenhout), a nod to the history of the Zaan region. From the seventeenth century onwards, this area grew into one of the most important centres for timber processing and the timber trade in the world. Hundreds of sawmills turned along the Zaan, processing wood brought in from all corners of the globe.
