The J.J. Cremerplein in Amsterdam-West is named after the Dutch writer, painter, and reciter Jacobus Jan Cremer (1827-1880). The square received this name on February 15, 1911, when the surrounding neighborhood was largely built up around that time on former agricultural polder land annexed by Amsterdam in 1896.
